This set replaced some old metal crochet hooks. These are very comfortable and are easy to hold. The yarn really glides off of the hook nicely. I’ve crocheted for probably 100 hours with them so far and they are so much nicer and easier to use than the 40 year old set they replaced.Very smooth stitching. Does not snag on yarn. Well worth the money.Ok. First thing - the crochet hooks themselves - 5 Stars PLUS! However... I couldn't give this review 5 stars because the packaging was horrendous. And the hooks were dirty. So, do not buy from this seller if you are going to get these as a gift. The box was damaged, squished on the bottom, and the circle sticker that seals the box - dirty - covered in hair. I took photos as good as I could, however, I don't think it shows quite how dirty they were. Also, if you look at the photo with the close up of the hooks you can see black scuff marks across the top of every single one of the hooks. I cleaned them up with 99% rubbing alcohol and it came off - but... again, if I had been giving this to someone as a gift I would have been embarrassed by it. Thankfully they were only for me so I didn't have to go through the process of returning them, etc. This seller has the lowest price for these amazing hooks - which is why I noticed them - but the quality of packaging/shipping - and these say they were new, but I am sure mine were used based on the marks on the hooks, the hair covered sticker, etc. Enough of that. THE HOOKS. YES. YES. YES. And yeah, I am going to say it again. YES!!!!!! I do not know how or why these hooks can look pretty much identical to plenty of other ergonomic hooks out there, or hooks with rubberized handles, etc - but work COMPLETELY different. Crochet hooks baffle me in that respect. I am sure there are real reasons, but I am not an engineer, so I will never really spend the time to know why. However, if you can afford these hooks - GET THEM. Now! They seriously make the straightest stitches, and everything is so much easier to just keep uniform. I didn't think I was going to buy into the hype of these, figured I will just be able to say I bought the highest recommended hooks and I still prefer my Clover Armour hooks, etc. However, as much as I love my amazing size L hook from Clover... these Tulip Etimo hooks are just downright all they are cracked up to be. The ONE thing I did notice, as I had only primarily used Clover hooks before is that the shaft is shorter on these. Which, honestly, has helped my crochet skills, big time. So that part does make a different. It is likely that it is only 1 or 2mm shorter, but I did notice it and it took a slight adjustment to get used to. Also, the "Tulip" brand name is imprinted in raised letters on the back side of the handle, I thought it would bug me, but after I started crocheting - I really didn't notice it. I am very happy that I was able to afford these hooks, I did also buy the 6.5mm hook (this set stops at 6mm) to add to this, as well as the Etimo lace crochet hooks (I haven't gotten them yet, they are in transit) AND the Tulip Etimo Grandhook(s) to complete the set. They do have the previous version of Etimo hooks on Amazon as well - they are the ones with the black handles and the hook is gold. They aren't as pretty to look at (in my opinion), however, they are very affordable and would work the same as these - so I highly recommend getting into Tulip hooks if you can afford them. Even just buy your favorite size/most used size in a singular hook - your crochet projects will notice the difference immediately! Oh and if you do amigurumi, these hooks - A MUST! The lace crochet hooks would also be a must (blue handles, silver hooks) if you want to do tiny stitches. So, hooks are awesome - only reason for the 4 star review is the packaging. I really want to give the packaging a 1 star review - but I want people to know these hooks are great as well!I use these hooks everyday and love them . They make crocheting great and my hand don’t get cramps from crocheting for long periods of time.Price a little high.I've been crocheting for many years. These are the utmost VERY BEST crochet books I've ever had in my hands. I'll recommend them to anyone. I LOVE MY SET.Love how the hook material helps glide into the yarn loops so smoothly with a slightly pointer tip than the other hooks I’ve previously used. The only reason I gave them 4 stars is because it’s missing the 2.75mm size hook. Why ? Unfortunately the red colored hooks don’t glide as smoothly as these pink ones, so getting a red 2.75 mm is not the same. Other than that absolutely love these hooks snd they are my go to ones to use now.I treated myself to a set after a job promotion. The case is cute. Other reviews complain that the tassel falls off. Though tempting to use the tassel to unzip its not made to be pulled on. There's a matching tab to use. So I haven't had an issue.*I still get squeeky pulls of my tension is tight though the metal feels smoother and nicer, it doesn't feel that much easier to slide through stitches for faster work up.* They are significantly lighter than cheaper brands and I do like that. And the handles do feel nice, but not much softer than other brands. Maybe a little increase in my speed but nothing that "blows my mind".*I'm in the US and because these are metric I made a small conversion chart to keep in the little zipper pouch. So are they worth the price? Maybe not, but I still consider owning them a luxury, and love working with them. Would make a good gift or treat to have.I was delighted with the crochet case but unfortunately the tassle fell apart after only a few weeks which was very dissapointing. I have tried to obtain a replacement from Stuff4Crafts who said they couldn't help however I have e-mailed Tulip in Japan who have agreed to send a replacement tassle from Japan.If you like to crochet you will love these hooks. Lovely to hold and come in a great case with needles and scissors, perfect to grab when you are out and about. Quick delivery.
