Wide calf boot
There are a LOT of different styles of Rose Petals tall boots on Amazon, and it seems that despite the detailed information given with each listing, there is considerable inconsistency in both calf and foot, which is why I've taken off a star. From the many reviews I read and the reality of the three different pairs I've tried, it seems to me that Rose Petals Regular calf is 15-16", wide is 17-18" depending on style, and extra wide is 19" or 21" depending on style. Given the number of reviews that complain the listing has the shaft circumferences wrong I'm not sure how helpful that is, but for what it's worth...!!I wound up having to try three pairs to get the one that fit (thank you, Amazon Prime!):Pair #1 (made in China): Sammi, in an extra wide calf - HUGE (I could fit a hand inside them, even over pants). Returned.Pair #2 (made in Brazil): Curly (this listing), in an alleged wide calf. This was my favorite style of the three - and also the one with the best footbed - but although I could get them zipped they were just too tight in the leg; while there is a small elastic gore, it's too small to provide enough give to make them comfortable for extended wear, and they'd never have worked over jeans or leggings. Returned.Pair #3 (made in Spain): Chelsea, in a wide calf. Just right! They're not quite as comfortable as the Curly (the heel looks the same, but the cut of the ankle is a bit different which I guess is what changes it), but they fit well and the leg is perfect. Keepers (especially on sale for $45!).TL;DR -- Bought a size 11, my calves are just under 19" around, these boots are approx 18" circumference at the top, but only 16" at my widest calf point.I bought these because they were a great price and the reviews on the calf width were mixed, so I figured it was worth a shot. The description is different than the title, and there was no good calf measurement listed. I normally wear a size 10 but often buy 11 in boots (extra space for socks plus slightly wider calves). The boots are lovely and well made. I liked the detail on the back of the heel. However, not a true wide calf. As I said above, these boots are only 16" around at the midcalf point, where I am the widest. I couldn't even zip them properly. I returned them.I'm not willing to try the extra wide, both due to cost (holy cost difference, Batman, over $100 different) and because I'm just really disappointed in the incomplete description here in the listing. I'll keep looking elsewhere.I ordered an 8M in the Tobacco color. The boots are well made. Leather is nice and soft. The color is a little odd, though. Kind of a taupe/brown color. I have a 17 1/2" calf. I measured these boots carefully and they have a 7 3/4" diameter or 15 1/2" top circumference. The description has 7". I don't know where Amazon came up with that. I was basing my order off of other reviews that said that they would fit a 17-18" calf. Not true! I don't consider these a wide calf. I could not zip them up. Had to send them back. Glad I have Prime!!I ordered these boots based on measurements given and customer feedback. My calves are seventeen and a half inches in diameter- from years of jogging and floor nursing, so I was excited to read that customers with bigger calves found these boots amazing. Quality-wise, they are very well made, and the leather is supple and of good quality- what you would expect for boots over two hundred dollars. When I put them on, there was a two inch gap at the top, but I had been on my feet all day, so I tried again in the morning. In the morning, I was able to get them zipped, but just barely. My calf measurement has not changed in the week that I first measured. I wish I had purchased the extra-wide- but I was worried, based on comments and measurements that they would be too large. I will wear these with skirts and capri style pants, but tucking jeans in is not an option, unfortunately.I ordered two pair of these boots trying to find some that fit. First, they run very narrow so consider ordering up a width. Second, they are NOT wide calf boots. I ordered size 8 C/D and the top of the boot are 17.75" around (not the 19.5" listed). Why is it so hard for the listings to be correct?!The shoe part fits just fine but I don't feel the "wide-calf" if really a wide calf. They are still snug on my calf and I can usually squeeze in to normal boots from the store. I bought the wide calf so that I would have more space between my leg and the boot. Glad I got the wide cause it fits like a normal.I liked the boot but not only was the calf too small but I ALWAYS wear a 6 1/2 and this was snug around my foot too. I just measured my calf over leggings and they are 15" - I couldn't zipper this supposed wide calf boot all the way up. Returning them. These are what I and my friends call "unicorn boots." They are the perfect combination of a heel with a good angle that isn't uncomfortably high, but still high enough to click nicely while walking and give some height, smooth leather that doesn't bunch too much at the ankle, no buckles or straps, and (most importantly to me) a comfortable fit for my wide calves. And they are a very reasonable price!I adore these boots, especially wearing them with tights and tunic. I look forward to wearing them for many years to come.
